Wuchang: Fallen Feathers: Red Faint Feather Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Faint Red Feathers are the first weapon upgrade materials in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers — the resource that takes any weapon class from its base state to Mastery +3 in the Impetus Repository.

They are most abundant in Chapter 1 (Worship's Rise) and the opening areas of Cloudspire. Every confirmed world location is tracked at exact coordinates on the hand-crafted Wuchang: Fallen Feathers interactive maps — built from scratch by our team.

The Four-Tier Feather System — Where Faint Sits

Four Red Feather tiers cover the complete weapon Mastery path from +1 to +10:

  • Faint Red Feather — Mastery +1 to +3 (Chapter 1: Worship's Rise)
  • Brilliant Red Feather — Mastery +4 to +6 (Chapter 2: Cloudspire onward)
  • Radiant Red Feather — Mastery +7 to +9 (Chapter 3–4)
  • Lustrous Red Feather — Mastery +10 maximum, one per weapon class

Faint Red Feathers cannot advance a weapon beyond +3. Once Chapter 2 begins, Brilliant Red Feathers become the active upgrade resource, and Faint Feathers remain usable only for the first node.

How Many Faint Red Feathers Are Needed

Upgrading a single weapon class from base to Mastery +3 costs 12 Faint Red Feathers in total:

  • Mastery +1: 2 Faint Red Feathers
  • Mastery +2: 4 Faint Red Feathers
  • Mastery +3: 6 Faint Red Feathers

Upgrading applies to the entire weapon class — every Longsword, Axe, Spear, Dual Blade, or One-Handed Sword benefits simultaneously.

Respeccing at any Shrine fully refunds all spent Faint Red Feathers, making early investment risk-free. Switch weapon classes freely without feather loss.

Three Sources of Faint Red Feathers

Jar Demons are the best renewable source. These ceramic pot enemies disguise themselves as environmental decoration throughout Shu Sanctum and Lightzen Temple, then shatter and attack on approach. They have a high Faint Red Feather drop rate and respawn each time a Shrine is rested at — making them the most efficient repeatable farming source in Chapter 1.

Wu Gang's merchant stock provides the fastest early access. After helping him up near Lightzen Temple and progressing his questline, he sells an initial stock of 10 Faint Red Feathers.

Once Chapter 2 begins and Brilliant Red Feathers start appearing, his shop also stocks Faint Red Feathers as an ongoing purchase for 600 Red Mercury each — the safest backup supply if world pickups are missed.

World pickups — purple glowing items on surfaces across Worship's Rise and early Cloudspire. All 16 confirmed locations are in the interactive guide below.

Elite Enemy Entries: One-Time Only

Two entries in this guide are dropped by Elite Enemies — enemies identified by red glowing eyes and blue-purple smoke who guarantee a feather drop. Unlike Jar Demons, Elite Enemies do not respawn once defeated:

  • Annalum — dropped by the Elite demon resting under the tree. One-time only.
  • Bandit Cave — on a table in front of a weakened Elite Enemy. One-time only.

The Inner Demon Entry at Doomwillow Beach

One Faint Red Feather at Doomwillow Beach is gated behind a mandatory combat encounter — the Inner Demon at the end of the mountain alcove.

The feather is not collectable until the Inner Demon is defeated first. This is the same Doomwillow Beach Inner Demon that drops Bo Blood — two rewards from one encounter. Prepare before entering the alcove.

Missed a Feather? The Point of No Return

The existing intro's note that "you can always return to early areas" requires one important caveat: this is only true before talking to the Storyteller at Altar Gate in Mt. Zhenwu.

Once that conversation triggers, Worship's Rise is permanently closed for the current playthrough, and any missed Faint Red Feathers in those areas — including the Worship's Rise statue entries and Mercury Workshop tunnel entries — cannot be recovered.

Wu Gang's 600 Red Mercury purchase price becomes the only fallback at that point.

All 16 Faint Red Feather Locations in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

The 16 entries span Chapter 1 and the very start of Chapter 2, with the highest concentrations in Worship's Rise (2 entries), Mercury Workshop (2 entries), Bandit Cave (2 entries), and Doomwillow Beach (2 entries, including the Inner Demon-gated pickup).

Single entries appear in Reverent Temple, Buddha Cliffs, Lightzen Temple, Annalum, Shu Sanctum, Tang Emperor Palace, Snowy Passage, and Mort Grotto. All 16 positions with access notes are in the interactive guide below.
